Winford CofE Primary win the final of Chew Valley Cluster Football Tournament
Winford CofE Primary School fought hard to take the victory in the Chew Valley Cluster Football Tournament.
Two years may have passed since the last football tournament took place within the Chew Valley cluster, but it was business as usual for Winford Primary School. Coming into the tournament as strong favourites considering their form in recent years, the first match saw Winford A win against Winford B by two goals to nil. Winford A would then put forth a commanding performance and a comfortable 6-0 win over Cameley B, whilst the Winford B team defended valiantly against Chew Stoke, slipping to a 1-0 loss in the final moments of the game.
Further victories for Winford’s A team meant a spot in the final was guaranteed, with their opponents being the winners of the other group, Chew Magna. The final was hard-fought with both teams having opportunities to score yet neither of them managing to find the first goal. With only minutes to spare Winford A were awarded a free kick in a dangerous position and up stepped the Club Captain to bend the ball into the top corner and bring home victory for Winford A in what is thought to be the sixth year in a row.
