Inaugural LSP Young Leaders Conference 2023
Student leaders from across the secondary schools in the Trust had the opportunity to gain new leadership skills, enhance existing strengths and inspire one another at the inaugural LSP Student Leadership Conference, which took place on February 9, 2023, at Gordano School.
With a focus on fostering and encouraging responsible civic participation by giving student leaders the skills and confidence to campaign and engage on issues they think are important in school and out, the event encouraged students to achieve more in terms of bringing about the change they want to see.
BAFTA award-winning producer/director in the BBC Natural History Unit, Fredi Devas, delivered a keynote address on effective leadership, drawing on his years of experience in wildlife TV and his work campaigning on environmental issues. He has produced and directed critically acclaimed shows such as Seven Worlds, One Planet, and Planet Earth II, as well as led expeditions all over the world to film some of the world's most remote animals, including the Antarctic, Fredi Devas combines his knowledge of cinematography and his love of storytelling to promote environmental messages and seek to affect change on a global level.
Head of Student Leadership, Gordano School, Stuart Swift, commented: "We want to see a thriving student leadership system at every LSP secondary school, one in which students start to see the world around them as something they can shape, and not something that simply happens to them.
"We are thrilled that Fredi Devas finished the conference with a talk on leadership, which I know left the students inspired to set bigger and more ambitious aims with their own leadership."
