'Excellent' Ofsted report for Whitchurch Primary School

An Ofsted inspection in February 2025 has confirmed that Whitchurch Primary School has ‘taken effective action to maintain the standards.’  The most recent inspection was ungraded, so Ofsted’s view from 2018 when the school was graded good in every category is retained.

The report is full of praise and inspectors commented that “From ‘Excellent Entering’ at the start of the day to ‘Excellent Exiting’ at the end, pupils are surrounded by smiles”. It was also noted that “Playtimes are a happy, positive experience…Playground activities are part of a rich, broad programme of experiences that enhance pupils’ personal development considerably.”

The report goes on to discuss the school’s vision for its children, stating that “The school is determined to equip pupils for success beyond school. To achieve this, it has shaped a highly cohesive programme of events, activities and wider experiences. The programme develops each element of pupils’ character to help them become caring, responsible, resilient and proactive citizens”.

Headteacher, Carl Hornsby, was very pleased with the report’s findings “I am delighted that Ofsted recognised the warm and productive environment we create for our children to support them in their development and learning. We are committed to this approach across all areas of the school and will continue to work towards this alongside our parents, carers, governors and of course amazing children!”

Following the publication of Ofsted’s report, Dr Gary Lewis, Chief Executive of Lighthouse Schools Partnership (LSP) said, “This is a superb report and I am delighted to see inspectors’ praise for the school’s caring ethos as well and the ‘fluent reading’, ‘complex mathematics’ and strong provision for pupils with SEND.  Whitchurch is a fantastic primary and that comes across loud and clear.  I am very proud of my colleagues and the school community.”
